Mike Durant retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 from the US Army. He was a member of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, the Night Stalkers. On October 3, 1993, his Blackhawk was shot down over Mogadishu, Somalia. The crash and subsequent fight with Somalis resulted in the death of his three-man crew in addition to two Delta Force snipers inserted to protect them. Both snipers received the Medal of Honor posthumously, and Mike spent 11 days in captivity as a prisoner of war. The events of that day are chronicled in the book Blackhawk Down. He has received numerous awards, including two Distinguished Flying Crosses and a Bronze Star, and has published two books - In the Company of Heroes, and The Night Stalkers.
